Watering Guide for San Antonio, Texas
Here are some tips you can
follow to help you keep your lawn green and your water bill low:
-
Make sure you use the correct
sprinkler or spinkler spray heads for the right job
-
Adjust your sprinkler or sprinkler
heads to water GRASS not sidewalks, driveways, or the street.
-
Use two (2) short cycles instead
of one long cycle to water your grass. This avoids saturating the soil
and creating water runoff. This means watering twice a week with shorter
times to achieve your watering total!
-
Water between 5am and 7am in
the morning. Don't water overnight because the grass will not dry out in
time and will be susceptible to developing fungus.
-
Set up a rain gauge to help you
know how much water your landscape receives when it rains. Skip a watering
cycle when it rains! This will save you money and prevent saturating your
soil.
-
Use an ET Kit to help you determine
how much water your sprinkler system delivers in 30 minutes. Use that as
a guide to help you know how much water you are putting down on your lawn.
-
Check your sprinkler system at
least once a month. This means runnning through each cycle quickly to check
for leaks or bad sprinkler heads
-
Set your mower height up a notch
or two. Longer grass blades will shade roots and reduce burning. This will
promote deeper root development
-
Use mulch to cover all bare ground.
Mulch significantly reduces evaporation and helps to control weeds
